Hvar Island is regarded as one of the most beautiful islands in the world. Our retreat is located in the charming village of Dol Sveta Ana, a pristine 12th Century hamlet discretely nestled into the verdant brush & pinewood forest that majestically rises above the island's oldest settlement, Stari Grad. Our accomodatlons will be at Suncokret, a boutique holistic retreat center adorned by stone cottages in a secluded setting. 

Dol Sveta Ana is often compared to Provence and Tuscany, with its sprawling vineyards, noble olive groves, fragrant lavender plantations, fertile fields, and charming stone cottages, so elegantly framed by the distant blue sea and open sky. Located only minutes away from the island's major attractions, yet peacefully tucked away from bustling tourist towns, St. Ana provides an ideal escape from ordinary life to an extraordinary organic haven.

In a supportive small group setting, you will learn about and practice mindfulness, Awareness Through Movement®, and qigong (meditative movement). These mind-body skills can be applied to your personal and professional development. No prior experience is necessary. Please read below for details, photos, and videos.

Our retreat combines Awareness Through Movement® lessons with training in mindfulness and mindful movement. 

Awareness Through Movement® lessons, based on over 50 years of research, are a marvelously sophisticated, yet pleasurable way to learn how to move, think, and feel with greater ease. Learn how physical, mental, and emotional habits are connected and how to create freedom and comfort while discovering delicious new movement possibilities. 

Mindfulness is a skill that trains you to live in the present moment with intention, attention, and acceptance. It’s a way of developing kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity that can make a difference in the quality of your life and the lives of others.

Mindful movement in the form of the ancient Chinese practice of qigong is a gentle method of cultivating vitality, stability, balance, and relaxation, which supports physical health and emotional wellbeing.

The retreat is open to everyone, with continuing education credits provided to qualified professionals, including Licensed Professional Counselors, LCSWs, Licensed Psychologists, Registered Nurses, and Massage Therapists.

Meet our Team

Lavinia 2015 scarf

Body language expert Lavinia Plonka, GCFP has helped people improve their movement, behavior, relationships and careers for over 35 years. Her unique expertise connects the dots among posture/movement, emotions, and the mind. Lavinia’s training and professional career have included theater, dance, yoga and the martial arts. She has taught The Feldenkrais Method® for over 25 years and is a level CL4 teacher of the Alba Method. She was an artist in residence for the Guggenheim Museum and movement consultant for theater and television companies around the world, from the Irish National Folk Theater to Nickelodeon. From Esalen to the Council on Aging, from Beijing to Mexico, Lavinia’s popular workshops explore the intersection between movement, emotions, and the mind. She is currently the director of Asheville Movement Center in Asheville, NC, offering a complete movement curriculum including workshops and private lessons. Lavinia’s writing includes several books and audio programs well as her popular column CosmiComedy.

Larry Cammarata, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist practicing in Asheville, North Carolina who specializes in mindfulness-based therapy and education. He is an instructor of Tai Chi Chuan and Qigong who has received advanced training in China and in the US. Larry is a published author who was designated as an "Author-Expert" by IDEA for his writing, teaching, and service in the field of mid-body health, fitness, and wellness. Along with Jack Kornfield, Tara Brach, Dan Siegel, and other leaders in the mindfulness field, Larry is a co-author of a book entitled, A Year of Living Mindfully: 52 Quotes & Weekly Mindfulness Practices. His work on mindful movement was presented at the 11th Annual International Scientific Conference of the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts School of Medicine.

Linda Cammarata, RN, RYT is the Chief Inspiration Officer of Mindfulness Travels. She's a yoga instructor, qigong instructor, and registered nurse who specializes in integrative medicine and sleep education. Linda has spent over 30 years studying, teaching, and presenting her unique programs at women’s conferences, health spas, yoga studios, and other venues internationally. Linda has extensively trained with several qigong masters, has comprehensively studied energy medicine, and has a wide array of knowledge of women’s issues and sleep disorders.
