The Nature of Mindfulness with Dr. Ronald Siegel

This educational program includes an examination of the theory and application of mindfulness as related to: anxiety, depression, and stress related medical disorders. The program will provide an understanding of clinical choices that therapists should consider when tailoring mindfulness practices to the needs of individuals. Participants will learn skills of: mindfulness meditation for stress reduction, mindful movement and body-oriented awareness practices to facilitate the mind-body connection, mindful communication skills to strengthen relationships, mindfulness to enhance problem solving abilities, and mindfulness as a practice to improve physical and emotional health and wellbeing. Participants will apply knowledge of current mindfulness research findings to clinical practice. Applying the insights of mindfulness-orientated psychology to clinical practice and adapting mindfulness practices to meet the needs of special clinical populations (e.g., children, trauma survivors) will also be included in the training.

Mindful Movement for Self-Regulation with Dr. Larry Cammarata

This educational program integrates the application of mindfulness, mindful movement, and body awareness in the treatment of medical and psychological disorders. The skill of enhanced body awareness can support the presence of both client and clinician. Mindful movement can add dynamism and energy to the treatment process, literally “moving” our clients towards the experience of wholeness while facilitating embodied insight.  We will examine mindfulness, mindful movement, and body-oriented strategies designed to facilitate self-regulation, mood stabilization, and enhanced concentration. The application of mindful movement and body-oriented interventions in the treatment of various psychological disorders will also be covered.

Our retreat is located at Castello Petrata, close to the medieval town of Assisi, in the Umbria region of Italy, which has been described by Lonely Planet as, "Italy's green heart…a land unto itself, the only Italian region that borders neither the sea nor another country. Removed from outside influences, it has kept alive many of Italy's old-world traditions." Please see the videos at the bottom of this page, which provide an overview of the Umbria region and a detailed look at Assisi.

Castello Petrata is a castle perched high upon a peaceful plateau in the countryside outside of Assisi. The birthplace of Saint Francis, Assisi is recognized as a spiritual World Heritage site. Castello Petrata was built from an ancient 14th century fortress, close to the Basilica of Saint Francis. You will visit ancient villages, hike in beautiful forests, explore Assisi, enjoy delicious local cuisine, and get to know the friendly local Italians.
