Mindful Movement for Self-Regulation with Dr. Larry Cammarata

This educational program integrates the application of mindfulness, mindful movement, and body awareness skills in the treatment of psychological and psychophysiological disorders. We will examine mindfulness, mindful movement, and body-oriented strategies designed to facilitate self-regulation, mood stabilization, and enhanced concentration. Five processes of self-regulation that are facilitated by mindful movement will be covered. Research supporting the psychological and physical benefits of mindful movement for various clinical populations will be reviewed. Self-compassion training as a complement to mindfulness skills training will be discussed, along with the research findings associated with self-compassion. The program will also review the benefits and limitations of mindfulness.

Our retreat is located within the beautiful Mediterranean seaside village of Scopello.

Our retreat is close to the Zingaro Nature Reserve, which feels like a beautiful desert island oasis because it is a beautiful desert island oasis where you can hike along well marked trails, swim in crystal clear water, explore cultural artifacts housed in several museums, or simply relax and take in the view!

The heated salt-water pool overlooks the Mediterranean Sea, with views of the nearby Zingaro Nature Reserve.

Sicily is the largest Italian island, and contains many treasures that are unknown to most tourists. You will appreciate the warm, friendly Sicilian people, who we have found to be expressive, joyful, and very kind. Lovers of ancient cultures, natural beauty, historical architecture, and great food will surely be pleased!

Sicily contains many Greek ruins. This photo was taken during our Fall 2017 retreat.

When we first visited Western Sicily in 2015, it was love at first sight! Then, as we began to more fully appreciate the natural beauty, unique culture, and friendly people, our relationship to the place deepened and we knew that our love affair with this unique region would continue throughout our lives. One of the iconic natural jewels of this area is the Mediterranean Sea. The charming village of Scopello, the magnificent Zingaro Natural Reserve, and tranquil port towns adorn the landscape. As Larry’s ancestral homeland, Sicily is a place that holds much meaning and heart for us.

The Zingaro Nature Reserve is bordered by the seaside towns of San Vito Lo Capo and Castellammare del Golfo.

Castellammare del Golfo

"The stunning promontory between Castellammare del Golfo and Monte perhaps the most beautiful in all of Sicily. At its foot lies the fishing village of Castellammare del Golfo, founded by the Elymians as the port for the city of Segesta. It has a pleasant harbour that is overlooked by the remains of a much-modified Saracen castle and surrounded by sandy beaches…(Lonely Planet)."
